Toy Police Recall Children’s Art Easels

On November 5, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of  Young Artist Easels made by MacPherson’s of Emeryville, California, because the chalkboard surface coating contains high levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard.   The CPS’s announcement notes that Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed because the number of incidents and injuries involving the easels is exactly NONE!  Here’s a picture of the dangerous device:

Apparently the Consumer Product Safety Commission is afraid children might use a saw or a knife to cut off portions of the easel and then eat the tasty pieces several thousand times.  I wonder if they tested how many easels a child would have to eat before a child becomes sick or suffers from lead poisoning?
