Rick Keyt's Software Recommendations

I am one of the most technologically advanced lawyers in the United States.  See my article called Richard Keyt's Law Office Technology Biography and Technology Rules if you want to learn why I make that claim.  Since 1983, I have been on a never ending quest to find software that makes me more productive and efficient so I can make more money.  Rick Keyt uses and recommends the following software products:

1. Macro Express by Insight Software Solutions.  This program is the premier Windows macro utility.  It automates all your common computer tasks.  I love Macro Express because it saves me a tremendous amount of time and makes my computer life easier.  Macro Express is a program that allows you to create a macro to automate virtually anything you do on your computer.  I use it primarily to insert text into Word documents or email messages.  If you use the same text or phrases repeatedly, why type it from scratch when you can type an abbreviation that inserts the text?  For example, when somebody calls and asks me about forming a limited liability company, I ask them for their email address so I can send them a marketing email message that has links to pages on my website about LLCs.  The message is several paragraphs of text.  With Macro Express, I simply type "llclink" [the name I gave this particular macro] and it zaps my canned message into the body of my email message.  I have several email signatures that I can insert as closings to email messages depending on whether I am sending a message to a person related to estate planning, entity formation or some other area of law that I practice.  Macro Express can also automate procedures.  You could create marcos to configure Word to print to your color printer, your black and white printer or to Adode pdf.  If you time is valuable, you need Macro Express.

2. Mailwasher Pro by Firetrust Limited.  Mailwasher is an email screening program.  I use it to view and screen all email addressed to me.  Mailwasher allows me to see and review all email on the server BEFORE messages are downloaded to my computer.  I can blacklist senders.  Mailwasher automatically deletes all current and future messages from blacklisted senders.  It also marks messages it thinks are spam or might contain a virus.  Mailwasher gives me an added layer of protection from messages that contain viruses or malicious data because I can delete all spam, unwanted messages and potentially bad messages from the server so that none of them are downloaded to my computer.  Mailwasher is my first line of defense against malicious email.  Deleting bad email from the server before downloading it to my computer greatly reduces the risk that any bad email will get to my second line of defense, i.e., the anti-virus and anti-spyware software that runs on my local computer.

3. Infusion Software Customer Relations Management.  See my review of this fabulous automatic marketing system.  This program will put dollars in your pocket.  It automatically markets to your lists.  For example, you can create a campaign to send a series of email messages to a group of prospects every thirty days for a year.  Each message is intended to sell your product or service or to give information to the prospects.  Messages can contain links to purchase products or services.  It all happens automatically.  Infusion's CRM puts your marketing program on autopilot.

4. Wealthdocs by Wealthcounsel.  Wealthdocs is the best estate planning software that money can buy.  Wealthdocs produces wills, trusts, LLCs, FLPs, and almost every ancillary document an estate planner could possibly want or use.  Wealthdocs has a very high learning curve, which you would expect for an automated document assembly program that can produce anything from a simple will to extremely complex trusts and estate plans designed to save millions of dollars in federal and state estate taxes.  It requires a lot of up front time to learn and use the software effectively.  With its high learning curve and $10,000+ price tag, Wealthdocs is not for the technology challenged or techological faint of heart.  I love Wealthdocs because it: (i) produces outstanding estate planning documents for my clients, and (ii) allows me to operate a very efficient and profitable estate planning practice.
