US Patent Law Legal Services

by Charles Runyan, J.D., Ph.D.

I became a patent agent in 1998 and a patent lawyer in 1999.  I have represented a diverse set of clients ranging from individual inventors to start-up companies to multinational oil and chemical companies and multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies.  I served many of these clients in an in-house capacity as an employee.  So, I have experience with how large companies work from the inside.  I am a sole practice patent attorney who is Of Counsel to KEYTLaw, LLC.

I have substantial experience in most aspects of U.S., foreign, and international patent law, including special patent office fee structures reserved for individual inventors and small companies.  Additionally, I conduct studies about whether one can patent an invention (is the invention is patentable), I draft or write patent applications, I file patent applications, and I communicate with the U.S. patent office after the patent application has been filed (called patent prosecution).  I can provide all of these patent related legal services for reasonable rates because I do not have the large overhead of patent lawyers in big law firms.

I prefer to provide patent services on a fixed fee basis agreed on in advance with clients.  When I cannot estimate the amount of time needed to complete a task, then I bill on an hourly basis.  I will give you a fixed fee quote for any patent law service after an initial consultation.  I can also help businesses that do not have a deep pocket to decide whether the cost of a patent makes sense.

Please call or send me an email message if you would like more information.  As a service to the public, I am happy to answer general question about patents and the patenting process at no charge.
