Basic Facts About Trademarks
A trademark is either a word, phrase, symbol or design, or combination
of words, phrases, symbols or designs, that identifies and distinguishes
the source of the goods or services of one party from those of others. A
service mark is the same as a trademark, except that it
identifies and distinguishes the source of a service rather than a
product.
Federal Trademark Registration of Domain Names
Depending
on how it is used, it is possible to register a domain name as a federal
trademark. Trademark attorneys recommend that web site operators
register their domain names, provided the domain name is used so as to
comply with the USPTO's domain name registration guidelines.
